April is a great time to visit the Sabine Hills and Villa degli Armeni. Warm enough to enjoy a gelato at the local gelateria or a barbecue in our outdoor kitchen, yet not too hot for hiking. Spring is well underway, and the forest above the house is enjoying the first new leaves and the incredible flowering of the wood anemones, which are literally carpeting the woodland.
Around the villa the bees are buzzing, because this is when the wisteria flowers, as well as the thyme.
Spectacular sunsets and misty mornings may also occur!

Winter at Villa degli Armeni
Winter is actually a great time to visit Villa degli Armeni. The landscapes of the Sabina are beautiful at this time of year, softened by mists and lit by spectacular sideways winter sun, great if you want to do some photography.
You can visit Rome or other popular destinations without having to battle huge crowds and get more of a feel for real Italian life, as well as easily visit sites such as the Vatican or the Coliseum which often have long queues at other times of year.
Closer to home, it’s a great time for walks in the forest and mountains near the villa or down by the Tiber River, the weather is often sunny and while it is still cold here in the winter, it is not too cold to get out and enjoy yourself. And at the end of the day you can take advantage of our log fireplace and cosy up with a glass of wine or a cup of tea if that’s more your thing. Cheers!

Goodbye summer!
This photo was taken about a month ago, in August. The hot days of summer are probably over for this year, but our porch is a great place to relax year round and enjoy the marvelous view. It’s sunny and sheltered so you can even lunch out here in the middle of winter.
